This meditation is one of the more difficult meditations to do and if done successfully can turn into transcendental meditation. The goal or object of this meditation is to clear your mind of thoughts.
When a thought enters your mind you just acknowledge and let it go and you enter the gap between thoughts until all that remains is the gap itself.
You sit down in either a full-lotus or half-lotus position with your back straight to the point where there is an imaginary line that goes straight down through you. A way to imagine this is to think of yourself suspended by a string that forces your body straight.
This is the meditation that Buddha used to achieve enlightenment. You will discover that the more time you are in the gap of non-thought there will be a paradox of opening yourself up for all knowledge and when you achieve a state of enlightenment you will discover there are no questions and only answers. Everything will come to you in a flash of understanding about yourself, the world, and how everything is connected.
“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there.”
Deepak Chopra
