Unguarded Thoughts

Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts. - Buddha
Unguarded Thoughts

Thoughts can be your enemy or your friend. It all depends upon how you view life. If you view life in a negative way then your thoughts will do nothing but expand and concentrate on the negative thus becoming your enemy. If you look at the same situation with a positive mind then you will see things differently and see an opportunity, the silver lining in the cloud, etc. and your thoughts will become your friend.

When I read the part, “Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much…’ it made me think of another quote, “A brave man dies once, but a coward dies a thousand times.”  When I first heard this quote I didn’t understand it until I was told that a coward thinks about many ways he could die on the battlefield then I understood it. It is the same thing as when someone bullies you they enjoy it at the time and may think about the situation for a short while but if you really let the bullying get to you then you will become angry and think about it for the next 20 years or so. The bully has completely forgotten the incident so why are you still holding onto it 20 years later? That is how you can do more harm to yourself than your enemy ever can.
