When someone speaks of unconditional love I think of the book I read, “One” by Richard Bach. At one point in the book, they talk about loving someone unconditionally. But the topic of one side of a relationship being physically and emotionally abusive then they both decided that conditions should be applied to love.
It has been said that before you can love another you must love yourself first. I would like to expand upon that and say that you should love yourself more than someone else. That way if you are in an abusive relationship you can leave the abusive relationship because you love yourself more. Someone who is in a relationship and gets dumped will feel pretty badly. Sometimes to the point of suicide. In situations like this, it is very important to love yourself more than the other person because that can be the deciding factor between life and death.
The other part of the quote is there to ensure a happy life for yourself and those around you. Don’t do things for yourself, do it for others. If you continue this behavior you will find that people will do things for you when they realize that you are being selfless.
