Insight Timer is a meditation app that I use that has helped me many times. And this little Buddhist quote I remind myself many times before I open my mouth. On bad days I keep my mouth shut often.
In the movie, “One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest” there was a character that everybody thought was deaf and dumb but in reality, he never really had anything important to say. It made me wonder if the character was applying this quote to himself.
This quote comes from a DVD series that I purchased from Wayne Dyer. I remember Wayne stating that he thought the word ‘intention’ was going to become the new buzz word in years to come. Not sure if that really happened or not though.
The intention is one of the motivating forces that starts the ball rolling but has to be followed up by much more. Wayne talked about buying the first couple of printings of his first book and put them in the trunk of his car and went out promoting himself. Motivation (motivation is like bathing, it should be done daily – Zig Ziglar) and hard work also attributed to his success.
This reminds me of another quote that I read about how happiness is like a butterfly when pursued it is always beyond your grasp but if you sit still it will enlighten upon you. It was shared to me from someone I knew in the past a long time ago.
Funny thing is in the image he is sitting still but instead of a butterfly, it is a frog that is paying him a visit. I had chosen a meditating frog for the icon of this site.
Another quote similar is, “There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.”
I have noticed that sometimes if you try too hard for something you really miss the point on what you are trying to achieve in the first place. You put the end as a goal by putting conditions on it such as, “I won’t be happy until this or that happens.” when you could have it all along.
This quote reminds me of the John Lennon quote elsewhere on this website. While his quote (disputed whether or not he really said it) talked about the importance of happiness this one gives an enlightened view on how you look at things to bring about that happiness.
I feel that this quote could be deeper. It almost makes you feel that you will be happier if you settle for what you have and I would prefer to look at it in the light of expressing gratitude and seeing the joy for what you have instead of ‘making the best of it’.
Peace. If you have it within yourself like in this quote it is much easier to be at peace with others. Peace is not the only feeling that this rings true for. Love is another one. If you find love within yourself then it is worlds easier to love other people. I had always said that you cannot love another until you love another. Can the same thing be said about peace? Can you live at peace with others if you do not have peace within?
This quote came from The Art of Ancient Wisdom which was originally from the Peace Pilgrim. After reading about who she was she reminds me of others who taught peace while walking a long journey. Mother Teresa, Jesus, Buddha, Gandhi, etc.
This quote by Wayne Dyer reminds me of bullies on the school playground. Bullies have fun making fun of people because of the entertainment they receive by getting a rise out of you.
What I noticed from those experiences is that the ones that do not let what the bullies do and say bother them and go about their business are the ones that the bullies have a tendency to leave alone. They simply were not having ‘fun’ with them. Thus, conflict cannot survive without your participation.
I used to think I was more mature than others because I did not see any point in bullying but my mother taught me the reality that I was not mature because I let bullying get to me. My father would just let things’ roll off of him’ and nothing much seemed to bother him. That was his strength that I tried to emulate. My brother went through the same hell as me when going through school and he grew up to be a very mean sarcastic person. I, on the other hand, though thought I would never treat people like how they treated me. I was told otherwise that I could be mean and bully-ish as well. Bringing out the prospect of nature vs. nurture theory again.
Arguments, bullying, grief, etc. can be eradicated or halved by simply not participating.
The Dalai Lama is an inspiration to many and his quote here is similar to the Buddha’s about not letting others ‘get to you’.
Someone tried to make Buddha angry, but the Buddha would not accept it and therefore never got upset about it. To read the full story follow the link below.
Can you look into the mirror and say, “I love you” without being conceited? Some have a very hard time doing it.
This quote mentions eating, moving, speaking, and acting in a way that shows you love yourself. But don’t forget that you are a spiritual being who having a human experience and not the other way around.
Your body is your temple that houses your soul so it is very important to take care of that as well.
This quote by Wayne Dyer is a good reminder of how like attracts like and I have to remind myself of this from time to time to help me manifest success in my life.
