Life as a Teacher

"Life always gives us exactly the teacher we need at every moment. This includes every mosquito, every misfortune, every red light, every traffic jam, every obnoxious supervisor (or employee), every illness, every loss, every moment of joy or depression, every addiction, every piece of garbage, every breath. Every moment is the guru." - Charlotte Joko Beck
Life as a Teacher

This quote is from Charlotte Joko Beck. I never read any of her stuff but judging from this quote it looks like I would like to add here books to my reading list.

The quote is very Zen-like and when I looked up her work on eBay it just proved it.

Any bad moment that happens to us will be much easier if we see it as the right teacher that comes along.

When something like this comes up ask yourself the right questions. What am I supposed to learn from this? How is this beneficial to me? If you cannot think of an answer have faith and patience. It will reveal itself to you.

The Big Things

Enjoy the little things in life... for one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things.
The Big Things

Do one better and enjoy all the things!

But enjoying the little things will definitely make you happier along the way. See a little bird pick up a big french fry in its mouth? Enjoy the moment and later on in life think about again then enjoy it all over again.

I could not make out the last name on this quote meme but when I tried finding the source of it I discovered that many different people claimed to have said it.

How It Is

Look around. This is how it is. Not how it might have been, or should have been, or how you thought it would be. It is how it is. So enjoy.
How It Is

Reading this quote reminds me of the word acceptance and there are many other posts here that relay to enjoying life more if you have more acceptance in your life.

Also, if things did not turn out as you expected them to then trust in the universe that it is unfolding as it should. Missing that bus may have avoided you from getting killed in an accident. That glue you tried to invent to never break free but turned into a failure? It has done it so that you can get rich by applying it paper and making Stick-It notes.

What if you don’t see the reason why things happened the way they did? Then accept it and move on if nothing can be done. If something can be done then do it.

Discovering Peace

Looking behind, I am filled with gratitude, looking forward, I am filled with vision, looking upwards I am filled with strength, looking within, I discover peace. - Quero Apache Prayer
Discovering Peace

This Apache Prayer is a real inspiration and like other posts, it relates to ‘thinking the right’ way to get what you want out of life.

In the past look at only the gratitude and clear your mind of the clutter that brings you down.

When looking ahead think about getting excited about what could happen instead of fearful of what could go wrong.

Look within yourself or upward to find the strength and guidance that you need to help you move forward.

This prayer is so true, you can find peace if you live your life like this instead of thinking of things that will lead you away from it.

Love your Work

The only way to do great work is to love what you do. - Steve Jobs
Love your Work

This quote from Steve Jobs rings true. It has been said that Aristotle said a similar quote many years ago.

“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” – Aristotle

Here is another similar quote, “If you love the job you have you never have to work a day in your life.”

“Do what you love, love what you do.” is another quote. The best thing to do is to try your best to find a job that relates to things you love to do and if you cannot find a job, create a business out of it!

Think of what you love to do and try to come up with a product or service that relates what you love to do that no one else is doing yet and that would help your business to take off.

Love Yourself

If you truly loved yourself, you could never hurt another. - Buddha
Love Yourself

This quote from the Buddha really ties in with the last post that was written that was named “Love Yourself” as well.

In that post by Wayne Dyer it talks about how that if you truly love yourself then the actions of others won’t affect our emotions and to use forgiveness to help do that.

This quote though states that if you truly love yourself you could never hurt another. So combining these two quotes leaves out everything, doesn’t it?

Buddha’s quote says that if you loved yourself you could never hurt another and Wayne Dyer’s quote says that if you loved yourself you could never feel hurt. I thought it was interesting seeing both of these quotes so I will add it below.

When we love ourselves, we refuse to allow others to manage our emotions from afar. Forgiveness is our means to that end. - Dr. Wayne Dyer
Love Yourself

Love Yourself

When we love ourselves, we refuse to allow others to manage our emotions from afar. Forgiveness is our means to that end. - Dr. Wayne Dyer
Love Yourself

Before you can love another you have to love yourself is a common quote too. Wayne Dyer’s quote here suggests that if we truly love ourselves then any negativity thrown our way would not affect us later. It says ‘from afar’ almost giving us permission for others to ‘manage our emotions’ at the moment it happens which I could accept easier.

Is it really possible not to let other people’s actions to not affect your emotions? Right away I want to say no! But then I remember my dad. It seemed nothing bothered him and he always told me to just brush it off and was surprised that I could not do it as easy as him. Does this mean I don’t love myself enough and he did? I know I would find it very difficult to look in the mirror and say ‘I love you’ to myself.

Do you think you love yourself enough to not let others control/manage your emotions? You may think that there are other things that factor in but if you really think about it if you keep simplifying and breaking down the factors you are left with only factors. Love and hate.

I almost forgot about the forgiveness part. If you love yourself you have to allow yourself to forgive. Maybe that goes hand in hand. People, that have difficulty forgiving probably do not love themselves? Do you think this is true?

Art of Acceptance

"The art of acceptance is the art of making someone who has just done you a small favor wish that he might have done you a great one." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Art of Acceptance

Martin Luther King Jr. had a checkered past but he was able to inspire many people with his speeches that helped make a movement for a better tomorrow.

Once you show enough gratitude through your acceptance it will strive to make the other person be a better person.

Wouldn’t we want this for everyone? Let’s all help a better tomorrow and motivate others to be a better person by making them wish they did a better favor for you. In turn, most of them will do the same thing with someone else. Let’s make this contagious!

20 Minutes or an Hour

"You should sit in meditation for 20 minutes a day, unless you're too busy; then you should sit for an hour" - Old Zen Saying
20 Minutes or an Hour

20 Minutes or an Hour? This old zen saying I read in many books already.

Every time I feel I don’t have time to meditate this phrase pops in my head.

You should never be too busy for yourself and if you feel that you then take longer to meditate and heal yourself.

Happy and Thankful

It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy.
Happy & Thankful

I like quotes that make me think and this is one of them. It’s like a which came first the chicken or the egg riddle.

Happy people had to get happy someway didn’t they? Probably something good came into their lives that made them thankful. Is it possible to be happy without being thankful? Meditate on that for a while and you will probably come to some realizations that will help you on your journey.

What emotion do people who are thankful have? Happiness, peace, content, etc. Is it possible for someone to be thankful and not be happy? I don’t think so.
